From a simple discussion: core values

In my view, Indonesia is a very plural country. It might be called a
nation which consist of large number of ethnic groups. Indonesian
pluralistic society can be seen at least two core values, personal and
social values with related to 'eastern culture'. However, when we
discuss core values of a country, it might be viewed that the values are
embedded for most of citizens not all of them.
Firstly, most of Indonesian people has personal values such as friendly, cooperative,
polite, religious. We are used to greeting when we meet friends,
colleagues, or neighbors. Personally, we are able to work together with
others and seem enjoy to meet people from different background. We are
educated to respect older people like parents, teachers, and any elder
ones. Children must obediently do as what older people said. Indonesian
people are also accustomed to dressing decently covered at least with
sleeved shirts. When traveling out like going to school or working, they
wear neat clothes and shoes. This is what I said about politeness of
'eastern culture' that very different with the western in which people
can wear any clothes as they want. Moreover, eastern culture means that
people cannot kiss in the street and live together without married. We
are very religious by five major religions and mosleem is the majority. As
social values, Indonesian people is not individually. We are used to
help friends, relatives, and neighbors. It is also acceptable to live
with large number of families in one house. Furthermore, Indonesia has
certain community structural organisation in any where we live. There is
a leader in each neighborhood responsible for managing all matters
relating to neighborhood residents. Sometimes, residents hold a meeting
to discuss if there is a big issue around the neighborhood.
Talking about core values in Australia is something difficult to describe since
the country is really heterogeneous with various nation citizens. Yet,
it seems to me that Australian is more care and friendly than
Indonesian. It is also easy to ask help from them. And I notice that
women, children, and elder are person who should come first. However,
people here is really individually, they do not know and care who is
live next door.
About the stereotype, these could be called like
that. Sometimes people name the person by characteristics of nation
where they come from. But actually, it is really wrong. For instance,
Indonesia is popular with respect and religious people, but recently
there is a culture degradation so that some people try to undermine the
community harmony.
I personally think that some core values are universal such as cooperative. This value will be embedded to every human because they cannot live without cooperation. That is all my opinion.
